When you were two years old, you asked me:
‘Mummy, where is my place?’
Intuitively, I answered:
‘Your place is everywhere.’
Because it is. Your place is not the space that remains when everyone else has taken theirs. It’s not the little corner where you will get in no-one’s way. It’s not where you can rest until someone else needs it.
If anyone ever tells you ‘it is not your place’: whether they are speaking literally or figuratively, they are wrong. You don’t need to not be there. All you need to do is respect what was already there.
No place belongs to anyone. And yet, everyone belongs everywhere.
Do take up space. If you don’t, you’ll never truly be here.
Truly be here.
Be everything you are, and more. You have never needed nor will you ever need anyone’s validation, tolerance, permission, or acceptance. You belong, wherever you are. And so does everyone else.
