Let’s imagine one day you will be a parent. My hope for you is that your children will bring home other children. Some you will like and some you will find annoying, too loud, too quiet, too something. If that happens, remember: these children are making your child happy. Which makes you happy. Sometimes these children will not make your child happy. In which case they will teach your child about life. Which is important, so even that will add to your child’s happiness.
Also, it will help you practice. Which you will need for when your child falls in love. They may bring home a partner you will like. They will probably bring home a partner that you will find annoying, too loud, too quiet, too something, but most of all: not good enough for your child. Don’t worry about who your child will choose. If you have given them love, trust, and the space to be who they are, they will be fully equipped to make the right decisions. This doesn’t mean they always will. This does not mean that they will not get hurt. But all of that is not up to you. What is up to you is to love the people they love. And your children will love you for it.
