Whenever you feel like you’ve exhausted your options.
Whenever you feel drained, hopeless, or lost.
Whenever you realize the path you chose will lead to a wonderful place you don’t want to be at.
Whenever you find yourself painting a picture you don’t long to be in.
Whenever you feel you are writing a story you wouldn’t want to read.
Whenever it feels impossible to earn back the cost of your blood, sweat, and tears.
Whenever the loss begins to outweigh the gain.
Whenever the person continuing the journey is no longer the person who wanted the journey.
Whenever you are in danger.
Whenever you are more hurt than holding on could ever heal.
Whenever you simply long to go home.
Whenever or however you’ve hit a dead end.
Turn around.
Trace your steps back to the point where you started to lose yourself. Or leave the path altogether and leap onto a new one. Life is not necessarily to be navigated in a straight line. Life is not meant to be lived in a certain direction, simply because that’s where you ended up or because you started where you started. Life is not linear. No road requires you following it all the way to the end. Especially if that is not where you are meant to be. Some paths are good for meandering. Some paths are for running into someone who or something that reminds you of who you are. Some paths are just there for the crossroads. So you can take a turn, consciously move forward, turn around, or pause for as long as you need.
At any point in life, you can begin again. Because in every moment, you do begin again. In every moment, you become. And in every moment, you disappear. Nothing is permanent. Nothing is definite. None of the cells in your physical body today were there when you were born. None of those cells will be there when you are my age. Nothing is lost. It is simply re-created.
The re-creation of your life is in your hands. Free will is the greatest of human superpowers. Forcing ourselves to keep going without a sense of purpose is our kryptonite. And the only way to discover our purpose is by granting ourselves the right to view our entire existence as one magical experiment where at any moment, and for no reason at all, it is okay to begin again.
